Surfer woman waiting for waves

This is from a recent shoot in Virginia Beach. We shot around sunset and got some beautiful light. Emory, pictured here was a great sport taking quite a beating in the waves. Each time a wave came in I had to hold the camera above my head and jump up. Crazy! The camera did get a little wet despite my efforts. There are better photos we did on land but I’m posting this one because I risked my camera for it. Next time, I will have a case for the camera. All images are model released and available for licensing.

July 4th Watermelon eating

It’s almost July 4th weekend, and in the South that means hot weather and cookouts. No better way to cool off than with a juicy watermelon.

Family fun in the kitchen

I did a lifestyle shoot with this really nice family as I continue to build a library of images. Mom and the girls are all dancers who are used to performing. The kids showed me a few moves before moving into the kitchen for a little snack.  After a bit of cajoling, we got this really nice moment between mom and kids.

Snow in the neighborhood

This is Lani and Tony. They are kind friends to model for me last minute during a little winter snow storm here in Norfolk. Lani was in from LA and was truly captivated by the snow as you see in the photo at right. Thanks to both them for some nice photos. These pictures will be available for licensing through Blend Images in a few weeks.

Woman and beagle in the snow

Filed under: New Work, landscape — Tags: , — admin @ 10:45 am

We received about a half foot of snow back on January 30th. In an effort to get a new portfolio picture or at the very least a stock image, I coaxed my wife into walking our dog in the snow storm. We gathered some colorful, though not completely weatherproof clothes and set out.

Room with a view

Did another shoot last week working with a single model. I brought my beagle to the location to add a nice warm home feeling to the image. He was not the most cooperative model. I can see why people like working with pros!

Family under a large oak tree

We did a little stock shoot over labor day weekend. It seems like everyone I know is having kids, so much like the last post, this photo features a small child. This is a real couple and their super cute one-year old son. They were great models (thanks guys). And I lucked out with this beautiful location. I was scouting beach locations and spotted a house that I thought would be great for its facade. When I knocked to inquire about it, the kind owner offered to show me the back yard. It’s a small Eden! The 150 year old oak tree seen in this photo became a major element I wanted to include.

Contributing to Blend Images

I signed on recently as a contributor to Blend Images. Blend has a great collection of multiethnic imagery. It’s a great niche, and I’m glad I can be a part of it. So far everyone over there has been really welcoming and helpful. I did my first shoot for them about a week ago. A friend introduced me to Jamie (below) and her adorable son. We had a nice time, hanging out trying to create some authentic moments. The image below came out of the shoot, and I will be using it as a little promotional tool to let art buyers know about this new venue for my photos. This image and about 8 others from the shoot will be available in a few weeks as Rights Managed images.

Gas station out take for stock

I was commissioned about two months ago by a local agency to photograph gas station prices for an ad about reducing reliance on foreign oil. They needed a pretty straight-forward image with prominent prices that would read quickly. I delivered an image that they liked and used in national ads. I also made this very different photo which was not used. I’m going to put it on Photoshelter and see if it sells.gas station
