Black Banjo Gathering

Filed under: New Work, music — Tags: — admin @ 2:44 pm

These are portraits of Jerron “Blind Boy” Paxton (left) and Hubby Jenkins playing backstage at the 2010 Black Banjo Gathering. These guys are great musicians and so fun to be around. Neither one has a CD out, but you can listen to them on myspace. I photographed a few other musicians including the wonderful Carolina Chocolate Drops who put on a high-energy show. If you are not familiar with them, this video is a good introduction. You can click the image to see it larger.

  1. Great pics as usual! Question- is “Blind Boy” really blind? or is the nickname for another reason?

  2. I’m jealous. Great music with a great spirit. It was in Boone, N.C., right? That little town has got a little bit of hippie in it! There is the premier blues gathering in W.V. during the summer. If you would like, I will get you the info on it. I’ve been invited several times, but never gone. I have a feeling you wouldn’t be disappointed musically or photographically and I have a few inside connections with some acoustic blues people there. I understand it is kind of like camping with Mississippi John Hurt, Etta Baker and Leadbelly all at the same time.
