Mumford and Sons display some duende

Filed under: music — admin @ 12:07 pm

My brother sent me this video of a group called Mumford and Sons singing a song called Little Lion Man. I had never heard of them, but I love this song. This group has what the Spanish call duende. It’s soul. It’s authentic emotion. It’s tough to find, and when one finds an artist with it, you should support it. I’m going to buy this music right now. Also, it’s a simple but cool video.

  2. Yes, duende translates to soul (in the musical/artistic sense), but I love its origins. As I understand it, duende originally referred to a fairytale goblin. In the artistic sense, the goblin is the dark side that tries to consume the artist. Meanwhile, the artist fights to keep creating. If all goes well, though, the battle results in the spine-chilling sublime. It’s one of my favorite things I ever learned about Spanish culture.
