I got a call last week to photograph a guy who works in insurance. Could have been really boring, except that he insures a short line train company and the magazine wanted a shot of him with the train. Unfortunately, no budget for an assistant. I used my new Elinchrom light with elinchrom radio slave allowing me to control the power output from the camera. Luckily, the subject had a friend to make sure the light did not get blown over. This is Mr. Cunningham at the front and back of the train.

Even though today was not cold, it still felt like winter with the sun setting around 5pm. To relive those warm summer days I edited some camping pictures from a few months ago that I have barely looked over. This is sunset at False Cape State Park. That’s my wife reading a book, as she does when she gets bored of me taking photos. Scroll down two posts and you’ll see her reading a book a few hours later when the moon rose over the ocean.

Barack Obama has been elected president of the United States. A lot of Americans, including myself, are excited and proud. I don’t do as much journalism work as I used to, but even if I did, I think I should be able to express this view. My wife read to me the transcript of George Bush calling Obama to congratulate him. As usual his ability to turn a phrase, referring to Michelle Obama as “your good bride,” is jaw dropping. At the very least, we’ll have 4 years of an articulate President, which will be a nice change. But I think he will be much more than just articulate. Here is a picture I took of Obama in Virginia Beach in February 2008 before he won the Democratic nomination.

On the way to the polls today, I saw this sign. It was kind of funny so I had to take a picture. I know for a fact that signs have been stolen from both sides. This is the first election in which I have volunteered my time on several weekends to a candidate. It got me out in to parts of the community I don’t often visit, and I am really grateful for that. I hope that I and others stay involved.

I was just going back through some personal pictures from the summer and found this one from a night of camping on the beach in False Cape State Park. It just happened to be a full moon and probably 10 other people were in the park. I think we biked 7 or 8 miles with packs on our back to get to this site.
